Caleb Klauder Country Band

If you don’t believe in reincarnation, try listening to Caleb Klauder's music. There's little other explanation for why a small-island Washingtonian can write, play, and sing music that sounds like it should be rolling out of a Great Depression honky-tonk. You can almost hear the dust sifting off his guitar strings as he taps into the deep roots of country music. Born from the heart of Portland, Oregon’s red-hot music scene, Caleb Klauder's new recording, Western Country, is set to transform how we think about roots music in America. Melding Nashville-quality songwriting with a love for early country, bluegrass and old-time music, Caleb Klauder makes his mark on the scene with a notable perspective on country music in a new century.

“Western Country, taps into the good, solid sound of old honky tonk and early Nashville recordings. The sound is authentic and natural— Caleb doesn’t try to sound country: he simply is country to the core.” - KEXP Roadhouse

Caleb’s warm and professional stage presence comes from years of extensive touring, first with acclaimed folk-rock band Calobo, a luminary in the Northwest’s burgeoning music scene, and then with the widely celebrated Foghorn Stringband. Over the past decade, Foghorn Stringband was signed to a major label (Nettwerk) and toured the globe. On and off the road, Caleb continued to write his own songs and dig further into his fascination with early country and honky-tonk music. First with his 2007 release, Dangerous Mes and Poisonous Yous, and now with Western Country, Caleb comes on like a young Hank Williams: singing familiar themes of heartbreak, revenge, love won and lost; all in the hard, simple spirit of true country music

What makes this package special isn’t just Klauder’s dusty, authentic vocal styling… but also his superb production. This album just plain and simple sounds right, as close as you’ll get to a 50s LP without actually touching vinyl.” –John Conquest, 3rd Coast Music, FAR Chart Founder

Unless you are a historian of early country music, you'd never be able to tell the difference between Klauder's originals and the covers. His mastery of that country sound is dead on perfect.” –Calvin Powers, Taproot Music Radio

The Caleb Klauder Country Band’s new release, Western Country, is a tall glass of about-damn-time for American roots music. Videos of his original songs “Worn Out Shoes” and “Hole in My Heart”, performed live on KEXP radio in Seattle, have received thousands of hits on YouTube. His effortless yet engaging abilities as a performer make you feel like you’ve stepped back in time.

Made up of veteran Portland musicians, the Caleb Klauder Country Band includes Stephen ‘Sammy’ Lind (of Foghorn Stringband) on fiddle/guitar, Ned Folkerth on drums, Paul Brainard (of Richmond Fontaine) on electric and pedal steel guitar, and bassist Jesse Emerson (formerly of The Decemberists). Building on Caleb's intense love of honky-tonk, rockabilly, outlaw and early country, and infusing the songs with Caleb's dry-dusty voice and mature songwriting, the Caleb Klauder Country Band is a rising star in today's Americana pantheon.
